Boyz N The Hood

1991. John Singleton stunned the world with his debut film Boyz N The Hood. Written and directed by Singleton, Boyz N The Hood shook tradition with its gritty storytelling and raw portrayal of the lives of three young men growing up in the Crenshaw district of Los Angeles.

Narrating a story inspired by his own, he brought many issues to light revolving around race, violence, and the struggle for a better future. Boyz N The Hood showed the world a glimpse into a culture that was just starting to explode in pop culture, and it would be the launching point for the careers of many leading actors, including Regina King, Ice Cube, Angela Bassett, Laurence Fishburne and Cuba Gooding, Jr.

John Singleton would go on to gain Oscar nominations for Best Director and Best Original Screenplay. At 23 years old, he was the youngest nominee ever for Best Director, and the first black director to be nominated. The film was screened in the Un Certain Regard section at the Cannes Film Festival and the audience reacted with a 20-minute standing ovation. In 2002, the United States Library of Congress selected Boyz N The Hood for preservation in the National Film Registry, a program established as a way to preserve films deemed important enough to be kept for future generations.

CLASSIC 2000
"TRE"

This special edition black and yellow leather and nubuck Classic 2000 is inspired by Tre’s “GQ” outfit from the barbecue scene and movie poster. The circle patch on the tongue is a nod to his shirt detail and the hanging beaded lace detail represents the necklace he wears prominently atop the outfit as a finishing detail.

CLASSIC 2000
"HERITAGE"

Utilizing premium leathers and hardware and completed with debossed Boyz N The Hood branding, this model is a tribute to the movie and to our flagship style worn by many of the characters in the film. The terry lining of the shoe is also a reference to athletic shoes from the 1990’s.

GSTAAD '86
"RICKY"

Inspired by Morris Chestnut’s character Ricky, the blue mesh overlay on the leather upper represents his iconic jersey, while the “42” callout on the tongue is a reference to his jersey number. The “R” letterman style letter hangtag is a reference to his star status on his high school football team.

"HERITAGE"

Like its brother the Classic, this archive model is presented in premium stitch and turn leathers and hardware, and is emblazoned with the Boyz N The Hood logoing in honor of the revolutionary film. Finished with a 90’s inspired soft terry cloth interior, this model can be seen on the feet of many characters in the movie.

K-SLIDE
"DOUGHBOY"

Inspired by Ice Cube’s character Doughboy, these K-slides with velour padded strap and Old English “K-S” lettering are a nod to his famous “D” cap and the soft velour material represents the soft house slippers popular in the era.
